Frequently Asked Questions about the Aertight Server Platform.

The Aertight Server Platform is designed and assembled in Millersville, MD. Although we do have parts from around the country and the world, Aertight Systems, Inc. is committed to sourcing locally available parts and labor whenever possible.

Anything you want that works on Microsoft Windows Server based operating systems. Aertight doesn't restrict what you install, how it's run, or the access to it. We're a rugged platform for you to build amazing applications on.

We can't include everything, so we've left some variables up to you.

Microsoft Client Access Licenses- You can optionally purchase these from Aertight, but since they quantity and type vary so much, they're not included standard.

UPS Power- UPS Systems are made with batteries, which dont always play nicely in areas where the platform is installed. We highly reccomend backup power systems be supplied for the Aertight Server Platform, but we leave those items up to you.

Wireless Access- Although the Aertight Server Platfrom will eventually have a model that allows for wireless access, we do not include this standard.

Yes. In fact, we designed them from day one so that you can add a second server and place it, even in a different geographic location, and then configure them to failover with the hypervisor of your choice.

The platforms can either be attached to existing network infrastructure, or they may be setup in "Islanded" where the platforms operate in failover mode with only two passive network cables directly attached between one another.

The Aertight Server Platform's Dual Island Mode eliminates the need for a SAN, NAS or network hardware completely by utilizing disk mirroring technology across the passive network cables.

The "Beach in Barbados" test is Aertight's goal of design that would allow an engineer to remotely coach a minimally trained operator though the most critical incidents which could impact the Aertight Server Platform, all from a phone, on the Beach in Barbados.

The Aertight Server Platform works toward this goal in the following ways...

Touchscreen built in- No one is hauling monitors around, SSHing into a command prompt. You're coaching someone through Windows. 99% of Operators are at least used to that.

Combination Lock Enclosure- Assuming someone has to get in, you dont want someone looking for a key that only one person has, who isnt in, or lost it, you can tell someone a combo code over the phone in an emergency and then have a higher level operator change it later.

Modularity- Din rail mounted power supplies, removable hard drives, and even a removable motherboard thats enclosed in a steel case all help the operator see everything

Color Coded- The power cords are only RED. The network cables are only green. The drive cables are only yellow.

Yes. Its been designed specifically for that as well. One of the reasons the system comes standard with seperate OS and Data SSD drives is to allow you to build your virtual machines on the hypervisor of your choice, place them on the DATA SSD drive, and then directly install them into the Aertight Server Platform without needing to push/pull them through the network.

The Aertight Server Platform can host approximately 2-4 virtual machines (depending on resource size alotments) and has all the underlying hardware built in, standard, to provide the most reliable support for these systems.

Although we designed the Aertight Server Platform to run as independently and "islanded" as possible, we understand, however, that even isolated systems sometimes need external access, so we offer the optional Aertight Islanding Switch.

The Aertight Islanding Switch allows a local operator to operate a keyed mechanical switch that will toggel a network connection. Our system completely mechanically isolates the network so it can only be toggeled by a local operator with a key. This system allows operators to create a temporary bridge for pre-configured network connections to establish themselves, then securely disconnect completely again.

The Aertight Islanding Switch cannot be electronically altered remotely, since it's unpowered, mechanical, and keyed. Its a low tech solution to the high tech problem of having an always on connection with all the security drawbacks.

We've designed the system with security in mind.

The main elements are:

  • TMP 2.0- All Data is 100% encrypted at rest, with a hardware TPM chip.
  • No USB, Network Jacks, or other input jacks are exposed on the exterior 16 gauge steel enclosure.
  • All cables are routed through the bottom water-resistant grommets and only connectable inside the enclosure.
  • The interior of the enclosure is protected by a mechanical combination lock. Nothing electronic here.
  • No wireless transmissions are emitted or accepted.

The prevaling element that decreases the lifespan of electronics is heat. Paired with dust intrusion, heat damages components and decreases reliability. That being said, the BEST environment is a conditioned, cooled environment, but we have designed our system to be tolerant of more extreme situations.

Aertights Server Platfrom is designed to be as efficient as possible, consuming no more than 100 Watts of power at any time. Our focus on internal industrial grade components also allows us to provide the following environmental paramaters that are outside the normal operating range for most servers.

Indoor, Unconditioned Environments with ambient temperature ranges between 0c and 40c

Locations with high levels of non-corrosive airbore contaminents

The Aertight Server Platform is a patent pending, rugged, fanless, water-resistant, wide temperature range, touchscreen embedded, wall-mounted, Microsoft Windows based server system with no moving parts that is housed in a 16 gauge steel enclosure.

The server is mounted on an interior steel back panel which allows complete removal of the system from the housing, so the enclosure can be wall mounted without damaging the interior components.

All components, down to the motherboard, are field replaceable and modular thanks to our new patent pending design.

Two Aertight Server Platforms can be paired together, even in different geographic locations, and configured to be in a redundant failover setup for hosted virtual machines while only connected by two passive cables.

Although we offer many customization options, our base model (101) includes the following features.

Microsoft Windows Server 2019 Standard

8th Generation Core i7 Processor

32GB of DDR4 (2666 Speed)

10in Capacitive Touchscreen

250GB SSD OS Drive

1TB SSD DATA Drive

1TB SSD Internal Backup Drive

16 Gauge Steel, Continuously weld, NEMA 4 enclosure.

Mechanical Combination Lock Entry with no exposed parts.

Aertight Systems designed the Aertight Server Platform with Engineers in mind. Meaning, we want to give you options that will really improve your ability to keep the applications you host on the Aertight Server Platform truly "Aertight Grade".

Our optional features include:

Additional Ram up to 64GB

Dual AC/DC Input Power Supplies

Up to 3 Additional Removable SSD Drives (6 total removable SSD drives are possible)

Colors- Fire Engine Red, Molten Orange, Army Green, Navy Blue, and many others.

Server Islanding Switch- Mechanically toggeled Network Kill Switch that can be used on-site to turn on, or off network access with complete mechanical network separation.

Virtual Machine Migration Button- A single button that, when activated on a paired Aertight Server Platform System, can migrate all virtual machines from one server to the other. Allows even minimally trained personnel

From the initial drawing, to the finished design, Aertight Systems, Inc. has relentlessly pursued  creating the most reliable server platform that exists today.
