Sometimes, you wish you could be "islanding" your server....
...hosting the applications you installed, connected to a remote network connection only when you wanted it to be. Worries about an always-on remote connection to your system can really keep you up at night. If you could only ensure connections to remote systems, when, and how you wanted them, you'd really be a hero!
The Aertight Systems, Inc. Server Islanding Switch is a mechanical, keyed switch that completely physically breaks the connection between two ethernet cables, allowing you to know with certainty that your system is disconnected from a connection.
The typical installation of the Server Islanding Switch is on the door to the enclosure of the Aertight Server Platform. In this setup, the switch wiring is protected from alteration, but a visual inspection can be made externally to determine the connection status. If the switch is set to disabled (off), a local operator can use a key to turn the connection on. Pre-programmed remote access connections via VPN, or remote control software, can then dynamically connect, notifying the remote troubleshooting personnel of the established connection. When the troublesooting is done, the connection can be turned off again, so remote access can't be re-established anytime.
The Aertight Server Islanding Switch also works great for clients that simply wish to increase the security isolation of their servers during after hours. In this way, the switch allows businesses with particular security concerns to completely turn off access to their servers. Access can be turned on at the start of the day, and simply turned off at night (as long as on one needs to work remotely on that server of course).
The Aertight Server Islanding Switch is only sold as an optional add on to the Aertight Server Platform. (Sorry we may have a standalone one in the future so you can turn off web connected Furbies and stuff, but that's not on the roadmap yet!)
